Cormorant - Drying the Wings
A double-crested cormorant balances on driftwood with wings spread wide, drying its feathers after a dive. The orange skin at the base of its beak catches the light against the dark body, and the water behind melts into soft green ripples.
They don't have waterproof feathers like ducks. After every dive, they have to stand and wait - wings open, patient, letting the sun do the work. A bird that earns its flight.
